Meh, letting him off with a clipped thumb is lame, i know you don’t want things to be all blood and guts murder but i struggle to find it believable that Malene would be so passive.
If you kill a guy, it becomes a fight to the death. It’s unlikely they will escape that unscathed, especially since Malene is the only one who can really fight, and they have three liabilities sitting in the back of the wagon. If you keep the bloodshed to a minimum, it’s a lot more likely the enemy will be willing to cut their losses and run.
I see where you’re coming from, but i’d argue killing the guy would sooner make the other two bolt in fear then playing pacifist. If they were cornered, sure, but the other two were still horsed and free to flee, at the very least, killing the first guy would’ve shocked them and given Malene opportunity to threaten them with the same or make another move, as it stands she now has a potential threat behind her she has to keep an eye on.

Killing that guy would also remove some potential leverage, and a valuable information source she has. If she keeps the guy alive, she can get information out of him. If the other bandit(s) kidnap Eggie and Ivan the cleric, Malene and Rav are going to want that information. That’s a threat to the operational security of the bandits, and something they’d need to resolve, if One-Thumb sticks around. If he’s dead, less of an issue.

How they’d react depends on too many factors Malene has no way to know. Keeping the guy alive leaves her with more options than guessing wrong on whether thugs who’ve already chosen violence are big old cowards who’d eat their losses and run at the first sign of trouble.
I think by that point the horse has skidded to a stop and is trying to get back. The RIDER is certainly moving towards him, but there’s a horse in his chest.
FUN FACT, A STARTLED HORSE, IN THIS CASE ONE THAT WAS JUST MONGO’D, CAN SOMETIME SPAZ OUT AND JUMP ONTO ITS BACK. LETS HOPE BUZZ HAS A STRONG RIB CAGE OR HE MIGHT NOT BE BREATHING FOR A HOT MINUTE.

A bit of constructive criticism, but in the 3rd panel there isn’t much indication thst the horse is moving towards him

bad horsie, stop it…
i’m reminded of Blazing Saddles, Mongo punches a horse… and Arnold as Conan- I think he punches a camel
Dzhentato
Next time on Eggie: Anthony punches a shark à la ‘Straya!

I’m really liking that we’re seeing this side of Rav. He always acts like he’s 5 steps ahead, but it’s nice seeing him off-balance in this case.

The horse did nothing wrong, but it is an easier target.
