I hope that explanation and Ivan's little dirt diagram makes sense to everyone. I have no idea if your brains visualize it the same way I do, lmao.

  1. I like it.
And I did notice that the “singing font”, so to speak, set in much earlier the 2nd time around, so that perfectly fits Ivans explanation as well.

  2. That is such a cool system of magic omg. Your explanation was great, dw. Made perfect sense to me

  3. I love this trickle of world-building and the explanation was also good!

  4. So she should be able to freely cast spells that don’t scale off of how much energy you put into them, then? Or do all spells actually have an upper limit, and Ivan’s school just isn’t aware of that?

    1. That’s where my mind went too. And since Ivan specified that “elemental destructive spells” in general fall into the scaling category, I’m expecting that the non-scaling variety will likely include effects usually associated with bardic inspiration

  5. MAGICLORE!

  6. Loved the chapter but I’m a little confused now, I thought that the book was a crutch because he was an emotion caster and not a concentration caster. Now it sounds like he also has the added problem of low mana retention.

    1. Concentration and emotion are two separate methods of summoning “mana.” Using concentration, Ivan’s always been too slow at summoning it to spontaneously cast with his voice, hence he needs the book. He may have better luck using emotion to summon it instead, but he has no experience with how emotional casting works, so practice and progress are likely to be slow until either it clicks, or he can find someone to advise him.

  7. Eggie: sings a little
    Reality: hits the emergency release
