This is the second time “thing that’s normally blooming around now isn’t at all” has showed up in the story. I’m getting even more convinced this will relate to Eggie’s god mark somehow. Not sure how that works when the only accidental magic so far (that I know of) has been song amplification, but eh it makes sense to me for “beauty of the world” to include flowers.

I believe DT knows what she’s doing, dropping chekovs guns around here and there, as hedgehog said, this isn’t the first time things ain’t blooming and i’m betting Ivan’s ‘means winter will be cold’ is another one. Something is definitely coming, which i guess is obvious since there wouldn’t be much story if there wasn’t, and clearly Eggie is marked to be the counter point to it but i’m curious what sort of story you can actually make out of a ‘beauty of the world’ counterpoint… a harsh winter with famine and in-fighting is the best my unimaginative mind can come up with.

Since the role of the traditional adventure role of a Bard is to inspire others, I expect Eggie’s magic empowered by her ability to communicate “Beauty” will encourage greatness; primarily in her companions but also in others, especially plants and animals. Its too early in the story to say what evil they’ll have to overcome though problems with plants seem a reasonable start.
