I am recalling a moment earlier outside the temple when a couple of clerics/acolytes are commenting on certain plants not growing. And I think a certain tree also wasn’t blooming? And our mysterious antagonist who is “more familiar with [Adahn] than anyone” has said that the God of Life has abandoned the world.
Theory: Eggie’s job is to both prevent the antagonist from (I presume) summoning Nihada, but also to gain the attention of the Gods and make the case for the beauty of the world, even if it is flawed.
It is also possible ERA, that the Antagonists are successful, they kill the world, and our Egg isn’t supposed to stop them but sing the new world into existence.
